New Features in iOS 18

iOS 18 brings Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI-powered features deeply integrated into the operating system. While these features will be rolled out later in the beta process, they promise significant improvements in many areas. Notable features include enhanced text editing and refinement tools, image and emoji creation, and significant improvements to Siri and search. Siri’s upgrades focus on better natural language understanding and contextual awareness, with integration with ChatGPT to handle more complex queries.

These Apple Intelligence features will be exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro and iPad models equipped with M-series chips. In addition to AI improvements, iOS 18 also offers new customization options, allowing users to rearrange apps on the Home screen to create open space, apply dark mode to app icons, and use color options.

Additional improvements

Control Center is more customizable in iOS 18, with third-party developers now able to add controls to their apps. Users can also replace or remove the Flashlight and Camera icons on the Lock screen. Messages gets support for Rich Communication Services (RCS), improving engagement with Android users. Other improvements to Messages include the ability to schedule messages, use new text effects, send messages via satellite when there is no cell service, and use any emoji for Tapback responses.

Security and convenience are also addressed with the introduction of a dedicated Passwords app to manage logins, passwords, Wi-Fi passwords, and verification codes. Additionally, users can now lock and hide apps, requiring secondary Face ID or Touch ID authentication to access, even when the phone is unlocked.

Safari introduces a Highlights feature to summarize articles and highlight key information on web pages. The Photos app gets a new look and a new Tap to Pay feature that allows for private and secure transfers using Apple Cash. Other notable features include equation solving and voice note taking in Notes, a Game Mode for improved productivity, and the ability to respond to Siri on AirPods with head gestures.
