Apple Apple on Monday released the first version of Apple Intelligence, a suite of artificial intelligence features that will improve Siri, automatically create emails and photos, and organize notifications.
The new software, called Apple Intelligence, was released in the developer beta of iOS 18.1. It’s also available in similar releases for iPad and Mac. For now, it’s only available to registered Apple developers, and the Apple Developer Program costs $99 a year.
Additionally, users will have to sign up for a waitlist inside Apple’s settings app after the update to be able to access the service, which involves pinging Apple’s servers to make more complex requests.
This version will be released to the public later this year, but the version number 18.1 suggests that Apple Intelligence won’t be released alongside new iPhone hardware, which is expected to launch running iOS 18 in the fall.
Apple Intelligence is a major initiative for Apple, and investors are hoping that the tight integration of AI with Apple’s operating system could drive a wave of major upgrades in the coming years, especially since the system only works on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max and above.
““We expect this iPhone cycle to remain strong over the longer term as AI features (software and potentially hardware) improve on the 2025 iPhone,” Bank of America analyst Wamsi Mohan wrote in a note on Monday.
