Apple patents embedded Face ID, which is expected to be included in the 16″ iPhone series

Apple has been granted a patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office for a next-generation feature that could replace Dynamic Island on some iPhone models. The notch design was introduced with the iPhone X, Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro, while the iPhone 16 Pro is said to include a Face ID element embedded just below the display. While Apple has had a patent for embedded Face ID for several years, and it has been speculated that the technology will make its way into this year’s iPhone 15, that looks unlikely this year.

According to patent registerFirstly detect by Patently Apple, the Cupertino tech giant Apple note that the new invention will include a screen with front and back sides. Multiple pixel areas will emit light from the front surface to display the image, and multiple openings will carry light from the front surface to the rear surface including the screen.

This device recommended by Apple includes a camera mounted on one side of the back of the screen. The camera is set up to take the captured image. A processor is connected to the display and camera in the device. To minimize image distortion caused by screen prompts, the processor is set up to accept the captured image and apply a digital first filter to the first part of the captured image and a technical filter the second number, different from the first digital filter, for the second part of the image taken.

Screen Analyst Ross Young speak that this embedded Face ID feature will probably appear in 2024 with the iPhone 16.

On the other hand, according to a Analysis by Ming-Chi Kuo, this element will be restricted to iPhone 16 Pro models. This is in line with Apple’s growing policy to increase the disparity between the base and Pro models, especially when it comes to screen technology. For instance, in the iPhone 14 lineup, the basic models keep the notch while the Pro models get Dynamic Island.

Kuo’s statement was supported by a report featured on Korean news site The Elec, claiming that embedded Face ID will be limited to Pro models next year before being included in basic models in 2025.
