Apple has released iPadOS 16.1 for its tablet devices, with new features including the long-awaited Stage Manager.

iPad owners will see the update available as iPadOS 16.1 but Apple rather confusingly announced it as iOS 16 as it was the first release after Apple delayed updating the operating system to made improvements to Stage Manager. So this release is the first official release of iPadOS 16 and comes a week after Apple announced the new M2 iPad Pro and the entry-level 10th-generation iPad in 2022.

The new Stage Manager multitasking feature resizes applications and windows for easy task switching. It allows windows to overlap and provides a new method of switching apps, and allows users to connect iPads to an external display to create a second iPad desktop instead of just mirroring the same one. screen.

But when Apple Announcement will expand Stage Manager from M1 (and since M2) iPad Pro to older iPad Pro, it also delayed M1 support for external displays. Apple will enable Stage Manager support for external displays in an update for iPad M1 and M2 models later this year. It will support display with up to 6K resolution and will allow users to work with up to four apps on iPad and four apps on an external display at the same time.

The stage manager is also available in the newly released macOS Ventura from Control Center. For faster application switching, you can access a column of apps running in the background while the current window is in focus.

In other updates, Messages users can edit, undo, send, and mark chats as unread.

iPadOS 16.1 also gives users easier sharing options with iCloud Shared Photo Library as well as Live Activity for real-time sports updates on the lock screen. This update also brings the familiar iPhone Weather app to iPad and includes new Safari Passkeys, a means of signing in to websites and apps with Touch ID or Face ID.

Apple notes that later this year it will release a new productivity app called Freeform for sketching and collaborating.

Meanwhile, the Mail app is getting smart features like a ‘remind me’ feature to come back to email later and automatic follow-up suggestions, as well as automatic alerts if the sender forgets to include the recipient or Attachments.

Another cool trick for the iPad’s Camera app is Visual Look Up, which lets users touch and hold the subject of an image and detach it from the background for sharing in messaging apps. It can recognize people, statues, birds and insects. Live Text on Apple’s iPadOS also recognizes text in videos. If the video is paused, the user can copy and paste the text and translate it.

And like the Home app in iOS, Home in iPadOS is getting support Important for control Material certified equipment across ecosystems. Amazon, Apple and Google are supporting Matter.
