It is understood that Miller, 77, tested positive for Covid and was immediately forced into isolation at his home in Sydney.

This debacle echoes Miller’s infamous shoot for Mad Max: Fury Road in 2012, which was plagued by a number of costly delays and production issues.

The shooting initially started in Namibia but ran into some public relations hiccups after the Namibia Conservation Coast and Management Project accused producers of damaging several species of flora and fauna in a leaked draft.

The filmmakers later dismissed these reports as ‘fallacious’.

Subsequent reshoots took place in Potts Hill and Penrith Lakes in Western Sydney but bad weather resulted in a number of delays.

Years later, it was also revealed that tensions between Mad Max: Fury Road stars Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy also led to major interruptions on set, with Theron later admitting that she had requested the protection from Hardy at a time.

Speaking to writer Kyle Buchanan for the book Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, Theron said Hardy’s late arrival on set caused stress that caused the film to almost derail completely.

After Hardy arrived to shoot a few hours a day late, Theron asked the British actor; ‘How is that disrespectful to you?’ and said that the producers should ‘fine one hundred thousand dollars for every minute he managed to organize this crew’.

Hardy responded by ‘charging her’ and saying: ‘What did you tell me?’

The Oscar-winning actress later confirmed the pair had ‘resolved’ their differences.

The film went on to gross nearly $400 million globally and win six Academy Awards.

Furiosa is a prequel to Fury Road with Anya Taylor-Joy playing the younger Theron in the title role for the post-apocalyptic blockbuster.

Taylor-Joy and co-star Chris Hemsworth were first spotted on set just before the film’s current closing, with both wearing red wigs for their roles.

Details about the Hemsworth character in the film have been kept secret by Miller and insiders at Warner Bros., with his role officially identified as ‘unknown’.
