“Currently, the rallying behind the Anwar government appears to be stable,” said Tricia Yeoh, CEO of the independent Malaysian think tank IDEAS. “However, it is a precarious situation where any major mistake by Anwar could cause discontent in UMNO’s ranks and records, which could then escalate to divisional chiefs, who influential power broker within the party.”
