Anurag Thakur hits out at calls to boycott films | India News



MUMBAI: Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur on Friday condemned the “boycott culture” targeting certain films and said such instances spoil the atmosphere at a time when India is looking to strengthen its influence as is a soft power.
In case someone has a problem with a movie, he should talk to the relevant government agency, which can then resolve the issue with the filmmaker, he said.
“But sometimes, just to make the atmosphere worse, some people comment on something even before fully knowing it. That causes problems. This shouldn’t happen.” he said.
“At a time when India wants to strengthen its influence as a soft power, at a time when Indian films are making waves in every corner of the world, such talk has lost atmosphere,” Thakur told reporters here in response to questions about the boycott of India. films of different interest groups.
The minister’s comments come at a time when Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which was released on Wednesday, is facing calls for a boycott over one of its songs.
In the past, Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat have faced calls for a boycott.
Thakur is in Mumbai for the opening of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) film festival that will feature 58 films.
The minister also took a strong stance on creative autonomy and said appropriate safeguards were in place to monitor content on OTT platforms. “Creativity shouldn’t be limited,” Thakur said.
He said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has received complaints about the above content OTT . platformbut nearly 95% of complaints are resolved at the producer level and some are resolved at the second stage of the content publishers association.
The minister said only one per cent of complaints reached the interagency committee and ensured that stern action was taken in such cases. organ
