Anthony Joshua Names Two Ideal Opponents With “Less Realistic” Rage Match
Anthony Joshua is looking for some big fights next year if he gets past Jermaine Franklin.
The two-time unified world champion lost the title to Oleksandr Usyk and failed to regain the title in an immediate rematch in October 2022, and now there are only a few days left until the rematch.
Talking to Dan Rafael ABOVE Big fight weekend, Joshua says that, although world titles are still important to him, he wants to fight the big names of his generation.
“It’s really a mix. The title of the massive. Everything comes with that. But at the same time, it’s heartbreaking that I’ve done it – I’ve won titles – but it feels like you’re still proving yourself.”
“It’s a balance… But there are a few names that I want to pursue over the next six to twelve months.”
When asked if those names were Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury, ‘AJ’ said the former was more realistic.
“It seems like Deontay Wilder is more realistic, because I just think the things that happened with Fury were a bit crazy.
I’ve been in this situation for a long time – even with the two of them, I’ve been in a similar situation – but I just feel like Deontay is approaching a stage in his career where he reality.”
Joshua had a clash with Fury last year when the pair failed to make a fight that came after very public talks. The same thing happened again with Fury this year – his team and Usyk couldn’t come to an agreement for an undisputed fight.
Finally, ‘AJ’ added Joe Joyce’s name to the mix. The pair fought in the amateurs back in 2011 with Joshua winning the first round – something Joyce is keen to get revenge on, especially lately.
“There’s another fight I’m watching – Joe Joyce too.”
However, the first for Joshua is Franklin, who will head to London to win on April 1. UK and US fans can follow along. DAZN.
