Anthony Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn has said his boxer has lost some faith in the sport after lengthy, public and ultimately pointless negotiations to fight Tyson Fury .
After his two decisive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, a shot at Fury’s WBC title seemed further away than ever for ‘AJ’. That changed dramatically when the champion called him on social media and to the surprise of many, he accepted. What follows are will-they-won’t-they weekswith fans almost waiting for the stumbling block in the negotiation too big to pass.
While we don’t know exactly what that is, negotiations have broken down. It seems the final days of negotiations have not been helped as Fury imposes an ongoing deadline for the other side to sign the contract. Eddie Hearn tells Social boxing that the whole process is the reason Joshua, who has spoken out about wanting to stay active, will not return in 2022.
“He lost his faith in boxing a bit because he really wanted to fight Tyson Fury. That’s the main reason he didn’t fight this year. He’s just annoyed. You know, he [Fury] We sense his deception.
‘What are these people doing? They said they wanted to fight me, now that I had a deadline, Chisora had another month to do the deal, and I had to sign it then’
So that’s why you’ll meet him [AJ] fighting could be the end of February, but it could be March”.
As of December 3 Fury’s has been gifted to Derek Chisora, Joshua once again found himself looking for an opponent. With so many options to choose from, it seems like the final decision will come down to how far the former champion wants to test himself based on the results of his last two outings.
As for the Fury fight, that’s what UK fans will always hope for – but it’s unclear how damaging the failed negotiations will be to any future endeavors.
