Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte rematch in the summer
It looks like Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte will be running it again in 2023.
The domestic rivals went head-to-head in 2015, with Joshua overcoming some difficulties to end the bout with a knockout in the seventh round leaving Whyte on his back.
There have been many changes since then. While Whyte remained in top form, picking up a handful of wins and two heavy losses, Joshua rose to the top of the group, becoming unified world champion before losing the title to Oleksandr Usik.
Now that they’re both in comeback mode, a rematch looks like a good move for this year. Via matchmaking roomEddie Hearn – who will be cheering for the match at the stadium – said it will most likely take place this summer.
“I think AJ against Dillian Whyte will always be a big fight and I think you will see that in the summer. The two heavyweights really don’t like each other. A big year for both Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte.”
Whether timing means Joshua will fight in the spring – as always on plan – or work with a new trainer and head straight into the Whyte battle remains to be seen.
Many fans are calling for the former champion to face Deontay Wilder insteadbut after relative inactivity and two heavy losses, this seems a much more viable route.
As far as Whyte fears, he wants to challenge for a title again – his first and only attempt ended with a headbutt by Tyson Fury in April.
He is close to a points win over Jermaine Franklin, and has long called for an ‘AJ’ rematch – believing the pair are tied thanks to his win over Watford men in the amateurs.
