Anthony Dirrell predicts Caleb Plant Vs. David Benavidez

Via Allan Fox: Anthony Dirrell believes David Benavidez will be too quick on Caleb Plant when/if the two meet next. Dirrell (34-3-2, 25 KOs) said he thinks the Benavidez vs. Plant will go all the way to round 12, and he might be right.

Dirrell says he sees the fight as a “One-way” in favor of Benavidez for being faster.

Dirrell was defeated by Plant in the ninth round on October 15 after Deontay Wilder’s match against Robert Helenius. With factory

Given how Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) put up a safe first match against Dirrell in their match on October 15, it will be difficult for Benavidez to score by knockout like Canelo did. Alvarez did.

Benavidez will need to take Plant down the entire teamfight for him to have a hit that knocks him out because otherwise he will constantly retreat like he did with Dirrell.

“Both of them are good fighters. I think David brings a bit more of it,” Anthony Dirrell told ESNEWS when asked for his thoughts on a potential fight between Caleb Plant and David Benavidez.

“I think David sometimes has problems with boxers, who are moving and elusive. But I think David’s hand is pretty fast, and he has some of his punches. I think that will be a factor in defeating Caleb.

“It will be a hell battle. I don’t think he stopped Calebbut I think it will be a one sided fight for him [Benavidez] too fast and elusive with his hand speed.

“I can’t get mad at something like that. It is still entertainment. We get paid to entertain people,” Dirrell said of the knock-out loss to Plant. “This is not my real life. This is for entertainment.

“Despite what people say, I will continue to live my life. Boxing is only a few years. What I do from here is important,” said Dirrell.

‘I have nothing personal against Caleb Plant, but I’m 38, I have to do what I have to do. I had to talk to get him to join me to get him to fight me.

“It’s entertainment. We are entertaining people and selling ticket. If I hadn’t done what I did, our fight wouldn’t have been as hyped as it used to be. I have nothing against Caleb. He’s a real fighter, but I have to get everyone involved to talk about it.

“But in the fight, I box very well. I don’t think he thought I could fight that well, but you know, counter punching and boxing, he’s good at punching. He doesn’t really want to participate. I think he’ll be more involved, honest, like when he fights [Jose] Uzcategui, but he didn’t.

“We went back and forth. I thought it was a close fight. It’s a chess match, but I’ll definitely go on in the next rounds. He caught me with a good shot. That is so that. I have never been so hurt.

“I feel full [the replay of the knockout]. It is located right on the chin. I can’t get away with something like that. Literally, it’s right on the chin. It was a quick knockdown, and that’s why I didn’t get a head or brain injury because it’s literally on the chin.

“I went down, and your feet give. If someone was hit on the chin like that, they would go down, period. I mean, you have to have an iron chin to not go down on that.

“We threw the hook at the same time, and he got there before me. He was a good boxer, and he did what he needed to do for sure.

I think it’s a lack of respect for borders, but after all that happened, I have no grudge against him doing it,” Dirrell said of Plant celebrating as he was knocked out on the canvas. You get the crowd involved, and that’s the moment.

“If it were me, I would probably join the crowd and not act like I’m throwing dirt at someone because you don’t know what that person is like. You don’t want to physically hurt someone like that, kill them, or do other things that permanently injure them.

“But I think if something happened, he would feel remorse and regret for that, what he did. Like I said, boxing is a combat sport. Like I said before, it’s entertainment. I have no bad blood with Caleb.

“That’s me just getting the fight. Who wants to fight a 38 year old guy? It was such a win-lose situation. If you beat a 38-year-old man or if I beat him, it’s a loss for them.

“I shook his hand from behind, and then we went from there. Sure, it’s a combat sport. This is what we fight for. We enter the ring knowing what we are in there for. We go there to fight, no matter how you look at it.

“He knows what he has in front of him, period. He knew I was a threat coming into the ring, and I think I accepted my presence, especially in the ring, the whole fight. I followed him the whole fight. But as I say, that one shot changed everything,” said Dirrell.

It was interesting to hear Plant tell the media after the match that the competition was over for him because that doesn’t reflect the reality of what goes on inside the ring.

It was very close through eight rounds, with Dirrell putting his hand on Plant, hitting him with harder shots, and chasing him around the ring throughout the fight. Plant gave more than he did in his previous matches, perhaps consciously protecting his chin due to what happened to him against Canelo Alvarez.

Dirrell mentioned before the fight that Plant was knocked out by one of his associates in the camp. If that’s true, it might explain why he retreated during the fight. Even when Plant scored by knock-out in the ninth minute, he withdrew.

If Plant was going to fight like this with Benavidez, he would surely lose. He couldn’t win the decisive Benavidez by running around the ring, playing it safe. Furthermore, he won’t score a lucky knockout like he did with Dirrell trying to knock Benavidez out.
