Another Vekoma on top is Keeneland November Book 4 Conclusion

Part 4 of the November Breeding Stock Sale in Keeneland ended on Sunday with figures largely in line with the same book in 2021. For the second day in a row, Spendthrift’s Vekoma stallion reigned. milk (hip 2355) topped the procedure when it sold for $290,000 for Oreo Racing. The foal was consigned by Brookdale Sales on behalf of breeder Susan Anderson.

Brookdale’s Joe Seitz said: “He’s long-legged, attractive, and a good size. “He looks like he’s going to be a really nice person next year. He has that look. I can see a lot of potential in him. We were very happy with that result.”

Apart from the TV series Female Lead Wins the Stock (Charlie India), the wean girl is a half-brother to Startdfromdabottom (Kantharos). His dam is a half-sister to the New Real Deal (Roy) winner of the Argentine first team.

Vekoma’s A Filly (hip 2205) delivered the highest price in Saturday trading of the November sale in Keeneland with a final bid of $215,000 from Frankie’s Stable. Through seven auctions, 21 weaned stallions were sold for an average of $93,571. GI Carter H. and GI Met Mile 2020 winner Vekoma stands at Spendthrift for $15,000.

While Seitz said he has yet to see many of his first weaned Vekomas, he received rave reviews of the stallion during this week’s hip 2355 show at Keeneland.

“We received a lot of compliments about the stallion and a lot of positive feedback when we showed the stallion how well the stallion was received,” says Seitz. “So it’s a beautiful culmination, it’s built all week and that really helps the horse.”

The Book 4 weekend portion of the November sale featured 532 horses selling for $19,112,800. The median of $35,926 was up 3.4% from 2021, while the median was flat at $25,000.

In two Book 4 sessions last year, 582 horses sold for $20,220,000. The section average is $34,742 and the median is $25,000.

As the November sale enters its second week, Seitz said there’s still plenty of work to be done on a sales basis.

“It still feels great,” he said. “The special ponies have been on the field continuously with lots of performances. And even the mares are getting a lot of action. “

The November sale continues through Wednesday and is followed by a race-age horse sale on Thursday. Bidding begins daily at 10am
