Phone accessories Anker is recalling three of its power banks: the MagGo 334 Battery (PowerCore 10K), the Power Bank, and the MagGo Power Bank. The affected power banks have model numbers A1642, A1647, and A1652.

According to the recall noticeThese devices “may pose a fire hazard.” According to the report, the lithium-ion battery inside has a “manufacturing defect” that can cause the power bank to overheat and melt its components. Due to the high temperature, the hardware may start to smoke and Smoke from lithium-ion batteries is toxic.
Anker claims the battery defect only affects a single batch of products sold “between January 3, 2024 and September 17, 2024.” Although only a “small number of batteries” are affected, the company is asking customers to register for the recall program “out of an abundance of caution.”
The recall notice includes instructions on how to “identify the model of your Anker Power Bank.” On the bottom of each device, you’ll find one of the model numbers. Anker says to identify the serial number after you find the model number. The two numbers should be close together.
If you have one of the faulty power banks, Anker recommends that you first store the device in a safe place. Under no circumstances should you throw a faulty power bank into a trash can or a retail store battery recycling bin. Remember: These are fire hazards.
The company requires you to fill out recall sample by entering your device’s serial number. You may be eligible for a free replacement, although you’ll need to provide some information — including proof of purchase (such as an order confirmation), photos of the model number, and serial number.
To safely dispose of a faulty power bank, Anker suggests contacting “your local government agency or fire department” for possible options. Or you can go to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency website to “find a recycling location near you”.

This isn’t the first time Anker has issued a recall. In early JuneThe 321 (PowerCore 5K) power bank and the A3102 Soundcore Bluetooth speaker have been recalled due to a similar design defect.
Anker is blaming a previous supplier for these issues and says it has changed partners. The company is “conducting a thorough review” [its] quality assurance process” to prevent further recalls.
