Andy Ruiz Jr. wants next Tyson Fury fight in March Boxing News 24

Via William Lloyd: Andy Ruiz Jr is interested in taking on Tyson Fury next for his March bout in the US, as long as his WBC title is included. Top Rank Fury promoter Bob Arum mentioned former IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Ruiz (34-2, 22 KOs) on Tuesday as one of two options he has for the bout Fury’s next in March.

One major issue that prevented the fight between Fury-Ruiz Jr. It happened that Ruiz Jr wanted to fight Fury’s WBC heavyweight title, but that wasn’t going to happen. Arum said Fury’s WBC belt will NOT be on the belt for his next fight.

Instead, Fury will defend Ring Magazine’s heavyweight title, which is not one of the prestigious ABC belts that Ruiz is craving. Ultimately, it will be up to Ruiz Jr if he feels fighting Fury is worth it without the WBC title at stake.

Payday Ruiz will face Fury likely to be as good as his two fights with Anthony Joshua, meaning he is likely to come close. $5 million for the contest. If Ruiz doesn’t fight Fury because the WBC title wasn’t awarded, he’ll likely regret his decision.

Ruiz wants Fury’s WBC title

Let’s go. I need that WBC belt @wbcmoro,“Andy Ruiz Jr told Michael Benson on social media.

That’s good money for a boxer whose victory is less impressive than a 40-year-old player Chris Arreola last month. Ruiz was headed too hard by Arreola in the second half and luckily he was not knocked down.

Andy looked slightly better than Arreola in that match, and it’s hard to believe that ‘Terminator’ has won three world titles. Ruiz looks like one ham-and-egger kind of boxer against Arreola, and it seems from watching that performance Andy lacks the talent to win another world title.

Andy Ruiz Jr. Tyson Fury

Like I said, there’s NO guarantee that Ruiz will ever get another world title at this point because for him, he’ll get a RIGHT world title ahead of the world champions. Champion Fury or Oleksandr Usyk.

Unfortunately, Ruiz will likely be up against a title-remover against talented heavyweights like Frank Sanchez, Joe Joyce, Deontay Wilder or Daniel Dubois.

Andy Ruiz = Wonder a hit?

Despite irking Anthony Joshua in their first bout in June 2019, Ruiz is a VERY limited boxer and not a huge talent. His victory over Joshua was a James ‘Buster’ Douglas kind of wins where a medium heavyweight got together for the perfect night against a vulnerable champion.

For those who remember Douglas, he was a wonder who inflicted a massive loss to unmotivated IBF/WBA/WBC heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in February 1990 in Tokyo, Japan.

Eight months later, the dashing Buster Douglas was knocked out by Evander Holyfield in three rounds in October 1990, and his career quickly took off after that defeat, going downhill.

Lacking the talent to compete with the best in the tournament, Douglas returned to the dark with a big win over Tyson. We can see the same thing from Andy Ruiz Jr., and that’s why he needs to grab Fury fights with both hands, even if his WBC title isn’t on the ropes.

The way Ruiz looks at Arreola’s 40-year-old slicing shot, he will NOT beat any of them.

Reynoso did not improve Ruiz

Since signing with coach Eddy Reynoso, Ruiz looks just like him no improvement at all and seems to be going downhill. Ruiz may be wasting his time with Reynoso, who also coaches Canelo Alvarez.

But in Canelo’s case, he’s one of those self-taught boxers, learning more from observation and in his fight than from what his coach tells him.

Other options for Fury are Robert Helenius, but it is believed that the 32-year-old Ruiz is in a prime position to fight the ‘King of Gypsy’ due to his popularity and name.

Recently, Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) was ordered by the World Boxing Council to defend against his WBC mandatory challenger Dillian ‘The Body Snatcher’ Whyte. However, according to Arum, he priced himself out of the fight by asking 10 million dollars or more, so it doesn’t happen.
