Knock on the cabin door sure there will be moviegoers on the edge of their seats like M. Night Shyamalan’s Horror movie opens. The new film, which hits theaters on February 3, is about a family of three whose worlds are turned upside down when their rental home is surrounded by four complete strangers. The group claims that the family, including Andrew (Ben Aldridge), Eric (Jonathan Groff), and their daughter, Wen (Kristen Cui), must sacrifice one of their members to save the world.
When it comes to Shyamalan movies, always expect the unexpected. Above all, you always have to be prepared for a final twist at the end. So what exactly happened in Knock on the cabin door?
Andrew and Eric don’t believe the story that Leonard (Dave Bautista), Sabrina (Nikki Amuka-Chim), Adriane (Abby Quynh) and Redmond (Rupert Grint) told them about the end of the world. The mood changes when one of the invaders sacrifices himself every time Andrew and Eric refuse to sacrifice a member of their family. Every time one of the strangers dies, a “plague” is unleashed on the earth – massive earthquakes, flu epidemics, and planes begin to fall from the sky.
Andrew remains committed to his belief that strangers are lying and suffering from general delusions. Andrew also realizes that Redmond was the one who attacked him in a bar years ago because he was gay.
During the first raid on the cottage, Eric is concussion. Throughout the movie, you can tell that Eric begins to believe in strangers. One by one, the strangers died in front of Andrew, Eric and Wen. Leonard was the last to go. He warns Andrew and Eric that they will only have a few minutes to decide on the sacrifice after he dies. If they refused, humanity as they knew it would end, and only the three of them remained.
“All mankind has been judged,” Leonard said before taking his own life. Suddenly, dark clouds descended on the cottage.
What happens at the end Knock on the cabin door?
Eric admitted that he saw a “shadow in the light” and Andrew said he believed him. Eric points out that this is not just a random home invasion. The Four Strangers are actually the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Eric wants to make sacrifices now. Andrew also offered to die. Eric tells Andrew that he feels at peace with his sacrifice. Andrew kills Eric with his gun. “Did Eric’s dad save everyone?” Wen asked when Andrew came to pick her up in the tree house.
A fire consumed the house with Eric and the others inside. Andrew and Wen walk through the smoldering forest as rain falls around them. Andrew finds a truck and a set of keys. It was the truck the strangers drove before reaching the cottage. Andrew looked over the belongings of Leonard, Redmond, Adriane, and Sabrina in the backseat. Andrew realized that everything they said about their personal lives was true.
Andrew and Wen drove away and stopped at a diner. They saw on the news that the disaster had stopped. Andrew finally realizes that strangers always tell the truth and that Eric’s sacrifice has really stopped the world from ending.
In the final moments of the film, Andrew and Wen receive cues from Eric. When they got back to the truck, “Boogie Shoes” started playing on the radio. This song means a lot to Eric, and this is clearly a sign from him that everything is going to be okay.
