Andrew Innes admits killing Bennylyn and Jellica Burke and burying their bodies but denies their murder | UK News

A man has admitted to killing a woman and her two-year-old daughter and then burying their bodies on the floor of his kitchen.

However, Andrew Innes, 52, denied killing Bennylyn and Jellica Burke and instead offered a special excuse of mitigating responsibility.

Innes is currently on trial for murder at the High Court in Edinburgh.

The alleged incidents are believed to have occurred at Innes’ home in Troon Avenue, Dundee, from February 20 to March 5, 2021.

A joint record of evidence agreed between prosecutors and the defense team was read to the jury at the start of the trial.

It is accepted that Innes stabbed Miss Burke, from Bristol, with a knife as well as repeatedly hitting her on the head with a hammer and knife handle.

It is also accepted that Innes suffocated Jellia before burying both bodies on the kitchen floor of his estate.

Innes was also charged with sexually assaulting Jellia. He further denied the allegation of raping an elementary school-age child and attempting to resist the purposes of justice.

The trial before Lord Beckett continued.
