Gang wants to make Amravati murder example: NIA
The NIA said the killing of chemist Amravati Umesh Kolhe was an act of terrorism, “by a group of extremists who wanted to set an example” of his killing. After he was killed, several community clashes broke out in various states such as Maharashtra and Rajasthan and many FIRs were registered, it added.
“It is revealed that, in all FIRs, the same ideology of some religious extremists is flourishing with the slogan ‘Gustaki Nabi Ki Ek Hi Saja Sar Tan se Juda’ (The Prophet was humiliated, and there was only one punishment for it, beheading) terrifies the minds of free speech advocates and Nupur Sharma advocates,” the NIA said in its indictment against 11 accused behind bars in Kolhe’s murder.
“…that the radical Muslims of Tablighi Jamaat committed the murder of Umesh Kolhe on the pretext of allegedly hurting religious sentiments, promoting hatred, malice, and caste hatred.” and different religions, especially between Hindus and Muslims in India, to maintain social harmony,” the NIA said.
Kolhe (54) was murdered on June 21 allegedly for sharing a post in the “Black Freedom” WhatsApp group in support of Sharma, who spoke out against the Prophet. One of the defendants, Dr Yusuf Khan, who was also a member of the group and was not satisfied with the support, allegedly passed it on to others with the intention of causing harm to Kolhe.
The NIA says that Kolhe is a law-abiding citizen and has no history of disputes.
“He exercised his right to free speech in a free country and stated in support of Nupur Sharma’s alleged, controversial remarks. His execution was not an act of murder. It was simply done with the aim of punishing him only for the blasphemy alleged to have committed. be an example”.
“The brutality of killing a father in front of his son, under open skies, in a public space, with proper planning and celebration after committing acts with the intent of a terrorist attack in A large section of society is an act of terrorism to say the least… Such act of terrorism has raised questions about India’s integrity and its tenacity,” it said.
The NIA also alleged that three other Amravati residents were threatened by “religious extremists” in early June. It said they were provided with security. While one was asked to release a video apologizing for supporting Sharma, another told the NIA that he had quit his job five years after Kolhe’s murder and hadn’t left his house for days.
Real estate agent and used car dealer Irfan Khan (35) has been named the mastermind, who the NIA says turned out to be the “black horse” in the plot. Another key defendant is Mushfique Ahmad (41 years old), a maulana, who the NIA alleges helped with extremist religious support. In addition, the indictment contains testimonies from 112 witnesses, including Kolhe’s son and daughter-in-law, who rode bikes not far away on June 21. Both told the NIA that they haven’t used the path since.
