Via Charles Brun: Amir Khan believes he has the perfect solution for how Anthony Joshua can defeat the cunning Oleksandr Usyk next week in their rematch on August 20 at Jeddah Superdome, Saudi Arabia.
Amir wants Joshua to “jump” on Usyk from the opening bell and try to overwhelm him with his size and strength. To be sure, it’s an all-or-nothing approach to fighting and it’s unlikely to yield results for AJ.
If Joshua chose to attack Usyk in a blitzkrieg fashion, that could leave AJ out and powerless against him in the first round.
Joshua’s gas tank was so poor that he was likely to die after one round. Let me be the first to say that it wouldn’t be good for Joshua if he took out his tank in the first round due to him following Khan’s game plan.
“He is a technician; His boxing IQ is the best out there, and his accuracy is what helps him win the match,” Amir Khan told talkSPORT about Oleksandr Usyk.
“What AJ has to do is just jump on him soon. AJ also took the puncher’s chance,” Khan continued.
If this is the best Khan and new AJ coach Robert Garcia can come up with for Joshua to beat Usyk, it’s not good.
Khan said Usyk told him he had trained 15kg for his rematch with Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs). What Usyk left behind was the 22 lbs he lost defending his country during the war.
In other words, the 33 lbs Usyk packed won’t add up to the 221 lbs for the first Joshua fight. Given that Usyk lost 22 lbs in the fight, the 33 lbs he put in would take him to a low of 230s.
“When it comes to boxing, AJ is a good boxer, he’s an Olympic champion, but Usyk is a super boxer,” says Khan.
“You really can’t beat him when it comes to tactics, technique or boxing skills. AJ will make a mistake if he tries to hit him again.
“You know how some people put on weight, and they look a bit soft, but he’s very solid. He looks strong and puts the weight very well,” Khan said of Usyk.
