Amid rumors, Mbappe ‘hasn’t talked of leaving in January’ says PSG official
Kylian Mbappe has never expressed a desire to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January, the club’s sporting director Luis Campos said on Tuesday, entering the swirl of rumors surrounding the star striker.
“I’m with Kylian Mbappe every day, he never told me about leaving in January,” Campos told French broadcaster Canal Plus ahead of a Champions League match against Benfica in Paris.
A victory will help PSG have 3 clear points at the top of the table with 2 rounds left.
The 23-year-old French striker turned down a move to Real Madrid in the summer and opted to stay in Paris, signing a lucrative contract extension with the French champions.
But so far this season, his form has been erratic.
Campos has dismissed suggestions that the player is unstable.
“It’s not a player statement, it’s (from the press), and to have such information before a game like this is very serious. That’s why I’m here, to deny and make it clear that Kylian Mbappe has never spoken to me or to the president (Nasser Al-Khelaifi) to leave PSG in January.”
After PSG convinced Mbappe to stay, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said the player was “confused” after being under “economic and political pressure”.
