AMD has left its weight behind decentralized memory
AMD, Seagate, and EY have joined the Decentralized Storage Alliance, a new organization that promotes the benefits of decentralized storage.
Decentralized storage is a technology where data is stored on a distributed network run by computers or nodes, located across multiple locations.
The new organization, which also includes blockchain firms Protocol Labs and Filecoin Foundation among its founding members, will reportedly focus on “promoting awareness and adoption” of decentralized technologies like money Filecoin electronic, IPFS file sharing network and peer-to-peer network stack libp2p.
Why use decentralized storage?
Compared to the now ubiquitous public cloud storage model, decentralized storage will mean that a centralized control and dispatch server will require significantly fewer resources, since most of the work is done by other machines on the network.
However, since it is not always possible to trust all computers on a distributed network, there is generally some degree of overlap involved.
What will the new organization do?
The alliance is supposed to create a “trusted forum” where organizations can collaborate to accelerate the adoption of decentralized storage technology.
This will include the development of standard specifications and reference architectures that address the “unique needs” of enterprise companies and provide access to educational materials, technical resources, and more. techniques and best practices.
Additionally, the organization will look to improve data integration into decentralized storage networks and make it easier for new data centers to join the network.
Decentralized storage might be a word we might hear more of in the future.
Based on research from IDC authorized by Protocol Labs, almost 86% of organizations have a positive view of decentralized storage.
“As a global SaaS blockchain solutions business, we see decentralized storage as an opportunity to diversify and add capabilities,” said James Canterbury, Partner and Principal at EY Blockchain. recovery for our data infrastructure. “And we see the Alliance as a key part of this – enabling decentralized storage adoption and broader industry-wide coherence.”
