masked singer the winner is riley amber! After weeks of incredible performances as the harp, the actress and singer has gone home with the coveted Golden Mask Trophy. For her final performance, she performed an epic of by Lady Gaga “The Edge of Glory.” hollywood life spoke EXCLUSIVELY to Amber about her masked singer journey and back to a song she used to perform delight.
“Honestly, it was like a week where they said, ‘Is there any song, any song that you connect with?’ It’s like the dealer’s choice. What’s really funny is that the executive producer produced my segments on the show, he used to be a dancer on joyful. His name is Michael Riccio. He is a dancer on delight, and now he’s an executive producer on masked singer.”
She continued, “We talked about what songs to do, and I said, ‘I want to do ‘Edge of Glory’ like a wink to The Troubletones on delight. It was one of my favorite songs, one of my favorite moments, and one of the last songs I performed in high school on that show. So I think it’s like a contest on the show, so I think it’s a really great, full moment.
Now that she can talk about her win, Amber admits she’s “relieved that I don’t have to lie anymore. And that’s a bad lie there. Everyone knows it’s me. It doesn’t even sound like a good lie. It’s really difficult. But I feel really excited. I really enjoyed being on that show.”
Amber admits that masked singer fueled her as an artist. She added, “I have such a connection with masked singer, so I understand what people are saying when they like it, it’s just one of the best experiences. No one knows who you are. When you step onto the stage, no one has judgments, opinions or preconceptions about who you are as an artist. You really just have to go out without the pressure and sing. If you’ve been in this industry for a long time, people will think you’re tied to you, like you can’t show them anything new. But the only expectation they have is to hear me sing and guess who I am. It was an invaluable experience and I feel like anyone who has been in the industry for so long, they should do it. Where else would you go for that experience?”
Harp costumes are built extremely impressive and brilliant on stage. Amber says that the harp attached to her is “very light” and “with wheels”. During her time on the show, the singer admitted that the harp “started to feel like it was a part of me.”
However, Amber could barely see beyond the harp mask. “At this point, not seeing is part of the competition,” she said hollywood life. “I can really only see this. I don’t have peripheral vision and I can’t see the floor, so it’s really about believing in yourself, trusting the stage. I really have to trust myself when I’m on stage.”
Amber is currently working on her second EP and will release it in 2023. “I’m really excited to share that music. My first EP Riley launched in 2020 and it’s been doing great,” said Amber. “I did it independently. This time around, I was just as vulnerable and honest as the first time. I’m really excited about the music coming out of the studio.”
