Amazon’s chief consumer officer Dave Clark is leaving the company


Dave Clark, Amazon’s head of worldwide consumer operations, announced that he after 23 years working at the company. The former Kentucky warehouse manager is responsible for overseeing the company’s retail business as well as its warehouse and shipping operations, which have expanded due to the pandemic. Clark announced today along with an email sent to his team, stating that he had been discussing “switching away from Amazon” for some time with his family and people close to him. Clark has promote to his current role just last year, following the departure of more longtime chief executive Jeff Wilke.

Clark’s resignation comes as the company is dealing with the first issue in seven years, one and than it needs. Clark is in charge of the company’s logistics operations, which he as demand spiked during the pandemic. The company reported in April that excess warehouse space will contribute to $10 billion in excess costs for the first half of 2022.

The CEO has frequently defended Amazon’s warehouse operations, even when criticized for unsafe working conditions. After John Oliver investigated Amazon warehouses in an episode of Last week TonightClark that Oliver was “wrong on Amazon” and that the company “takes pride in the safe, quality work environments” of its facilities.

Clark’s resignation will take effect in July by Amazon. So far, the successor has not been named.
