Amazon lets US customers pay with Venmo
Amazon is rolling out a feature that allows shoppers to pay for items with their Venmo account.
The option to pay with Venmo will be available to select Amazon.com customers starting Tuesday, the e-commerce giant said in a press release. By Black Friday — the day after Thanksgiving — it will be available nationwide.
Venmo is largely known for its peer-to-peer transactions, but it has been expanding its offering to allow pay for businesses.
Amazon’s move to offer more payment options comes as sluggish sales prompted the company to halt plans to expand its warehouse. Retailers are also getting smarter about the holiday shopping season and are offering more discount to free up their bloated inventory and appeal to inflation-affected consumers.
Earlier this month, Amazon held its second major sale event this year for its Prime members, the first time the company has slashed prices twice in one year. The retail giant did not disclose how much revenue it made from the event, but some estimates suggest it has seen lower sales.
