Amazon invests $4 billion in building new AWS data center cluster in Hyderabad by 2030

Amazon Web Service (AWS) on Tuesday announced an investment of $4.4 billion (approximately Rs 36,300 crore) by 2030 to build a second data center cluster at Hyderabad in India. Amazon.com Inc, through the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) region, will provide developers, startups, and companies among others “running workloads” with greater resiliency and availability, securely store data in India, and serve end users with lower latency.” AWS already has a similar facility in Mumbai, which opened in 2016. It operates such facilities in 30 geographic regions around the world.

The demand for data centers in India has grown exponentially with the increase in data consumption and cloud adoption. Ratings agency Crisil estimates that data center capacity will double to reach 1,700-1,800MW by 2025 from its current capacity of 870MW.

This has prompted corporations like Adani Group to announce large investments in setting up data centers in multiple locations. While Oracle, in 2019, announced Gen 2 cloud regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad, and dependence was attached to Microsoft provides cloud services to small and medium enterprises in the country. Hiranandani Corporation has launched Yotta Infrastructure to build data centers in Mumbai and Chennai.

In a statement, AWS announced the “launch of the second AWS infrastructure region in India – the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) region. Starting today, developers, startups, entrepreneurs and Enterprises as well as government, educational and non-profit organizations will have more options to run their applications and serve end users from data centers in India.”

“Customers will have access to cutting-edge AWS technologies to drive innovation, including data analytics, security, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI),” it said.

“The launch of the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) region supports India’s digital transformation and is part of the expansion,” said Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of Infrastructure Services at Amazon Data. AWS’s long-term investment in the country since opening its first office in 2011. Services.

“Now, customers and partners in India will have more regional infrastructure to deploy applications with more resilience, higher availability, and even lower latency,” he said.

As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a $1 trillion (approximately Rs. 82 lakh crore) digital economy, the ‘cloud of India’ is set to expand and innovate.

“Data centers are an important element of the digital ecosystem. AWS’s investment in expanding their data centers in India is a welcome and certain development. will help catalyze India’s digital economy,” the statement quoted Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Federal Minister for Electronics and Communications. Information technology and skills development and entrepreneurship as mentioned.

He said the government’s upcoming National Cloud and Data Center Policy is expected to significantly increase India’s capacity from the current 565MW to more than 2,565MW in the near future.

With the launch of the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) region, AWS now has 96 Availability Zones across 30 geographies, with announced plans to launch 15 more Availability Zones and 5 AWS regions others in Australia, Canada, Israel, New Zealand and Thailand.

AWS Regions include Availability Zones that place infrastructure in distinct and distinct geographical locations.

The AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region includes three Availability Zones and joins the existing AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) region, which opened in June 2016.

Availability Zones are spaced far enough apart to support customer business continuity and close enough to provide low latency for high availability applications using multiple Availability Zones. Each Availability Zone has independent power, cooling, and physical security and is connected via ultra-low latency redundant networks.

AWS “high-availability-focused customers can design their applications to run in multiple Availability Zones for even greater fault tolerance,” it said. “The launch of the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) region will give local customers the option of where to store data securely store data in India while providing customers with low latency even lower nationally.” The investment of $4.4 billion (approximately Rs 36,300) by 2030 covers capital expenditures for data center construction, operational costs related to utilities and ongoing facility costs as well. such as buying goods and services from businesses in the area.

“The investment is also estimated to support an average of more than 48,000 full-time jobs annually in external businesses during this time,” the statement said. “The construction and operation of the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) region is also estimated to add approximately $7.6 billion (Rs 63,600 crore) to India’s gross domestic product by 2030.” KT Rama Rao, Minister of IT and Industry, Government of Telangana, welcomed AWS’s commitment to invest Rs 36.3 trillion in the AWS region in Hyderabad, which strengthens the state’s position as an advanced data center ministry in India.
