Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series is , maybe just far enough away to get used to the unwieldy title. The company has revealed the full name of the program – The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power – in a short video.
“This is a title we imagine could live forever in the spine of a book alongside other JRR Tolkien classics,” showrunners JD Payne & Patrick McKay . “Rings of Power combines all the major stories of the Second Age of Middle-earth: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. ”
The video shows what looks like a couple of valleys with a hazy fog before we see what’s really going on. Molten metal fills in the grooves before being cooled by water. The camera then zooms out to show the name of the show. Recording clip instead of CGI.
The trailer doesn’t feature any characters or provide plot details. There’s plenty of time for that in future trailers. However, the narration emphasizes the fact that the show will once again focus on the 20 rings at the center of LOTR saga – just in case the title doesn’t have enough impact on that house.
