Amazon again released the list of the most dangerous places to work in the US by the advocacy group

Amazon has made a list for most dangerous workplace in America for the third time. National advocacy group COSH (Council for Occupational Safety and Health) has consists of Amazon on the “Dirty Dozen” list is meant to shame what it considers America’s least safe workplaces by 2022. This internet retailer won’t differentiate itself with its trademark rate. disability is more than double the industry average, including six deaths in one Bessemer Warehouse, Alabama since it opened in 2020.

National COSH notes that one of the workers who died is believed to have been forced to work while sick because he didn’t get enough unpaid leave. It also points to worker Jennifer Bates’ concern that “work speed” and overall stress contribute to injuries. Advocates also point out that Amazon fired Staten Island warehouse worker Gerald Bryson following a 2020 protest over the lack of COVID-19 safety measures. A recent judge ordered Amazon to restore Bryson after it was determined that he had been fired in retaliation for his criticism.

We have asked Amazon for comment. It has previously denied putting workers at undue risk and asserted that Bryson was fired for violating the company’s language policy despite a lack of evidence. Amazon also made the list in 2019 and 2020. Other companies on the 2022 list include Dollar General, Hilton Hotels, and Starbucks.

The National COSH listing will not have any direct consequences for Amazon. However, it’s not a good look for the tech company after a series of allegations and incidents beyond those that helped them make the list. The company was punished for operating a warehouse in Illinois in a tornado killed six employees in December. Workers’ rights advocates have also accused Amazon abuse a program of charity work to hide its true rate of injury, and Bryson is not the first to supposedly fired for criticizing labor practices. We won’t count on Amazon avoiding the 2023 list, even if it tries improve safety.
