Almanzor wins first bet
Almanzor (Fr), 2016’s 3-year-old European Champion, was represented by her first black winner on Sunday when Dynastic (NZ) won the limited-listed Karaka Million at Ellerslie.
Dynastic was also the first winner Down Under for Almanzor, who moved to Cambridge Stud from his base at Haras d’Etreham in Normandy. Almanzor’s first crop conceived by New Zealand had 101 ponies, and he’s had five runner-ups to date, including a third G2 Wakefield Challenge S. Andalus (NZ). Dynastic, owned by Te Akau Racing and coached by Jamie Richards, who soon moved to Hong Kong, made his second start at Karaka Million.
Almanzor made its first finish in the Northern Hemisphere last year. From a crop of 102 ponies, he had 10 winners from 39 runners and two stake horses, including a second G3 Prix des Reservits Queen Trezy (Fr). The three-group 1 winner is €30,000 at Etreham this season.
