All the news from Gamescom Opening Night Live – PlayStation.Blog
Check out the new location submerged in crimson water, new characters that play a key role in the story, and of course, some fierce new monsters, all in our third Monster Hunter Wilds trailer. We’re excited to share our first in-depth look below, straight to all PlayStation players.
Check out the brand new trailer and read on to learn more about the Forbidden Lands, the inhabitants of the Hunter base camp in Windward Plains, as well as the mysterious monster that caused the storm in our previous trailer.
Enter the Scarlet Forest and fight new enemies
Together with the members of the Research Commission, we enter a new location in the Forbidden Lands and come face to face with a new large monster that calls this place home. This new spider-like monster is part of the rare Temnoceran monster subspecies, which have been few and far between throughout the series.
Crimson Forest
Follow the river from the Windward Plains into the lush, green Scarlet Forest, filled with tall trees and abundant water. However, this is no ordinary forest. As its name suggests, the towering greenery above is offset by the crimson water.
Lala Barina
New to Monster Hunter Wilds is the Temnoceran Lala Barina, who lives in the Scarlet Forest. Usually covered in white fur, Lala Barina can freely expand her chest, revealing the radiant yet dangerous appearance of a blooming rose.
Large, ever-changing environment
Monster Hunter Wilds’ vast and dynamic environments can change dramatically in the blink of an eye. During the harsh Fallow, hungry predators roam the shrinking land in search of food, creating more ferocious and dangerous monster hordes.
A Fallow is often followed by a local Inclemency: a severe ecological event that can completely alter the ecosystem. Be prepared to face the area’s dangerous climax monster during an Inclemency. In the Windward Plains, the specific Inclemency is a massive sandstorm with lightning called a Sandtide.
Harmony seems to have returned to the land after the Inclemency phase ended with the Plenty phase, where the land was once again filled with life.
Expect the unexpected in the vibrant locations of Monster Hunter Wilds, where no two hunts are exactly alike.
The Abandoned Period of the “Windward Plains”
In the “windward plain”, an unusual harshness occurs, with fierce sand tides
The Plenty Period of the “Windward Plains”
A Thunder Peak Revelation
In each location in Monster Hunter Wilds, apex monsters dominate the ecosystem.
Rey Dau
Though only glimpsed in the previous trailer, the mysterious monster Rey Dau is no longer a bolt of lightning, but a full-fledged presence. This flying dragon reigns as the pinnacle monster of the Windward Plains.
Rey Dau is most commonly seen during the Sandtide Inclemency in the Windward Plains and is well-adapted to its harsh weather conditions. Along with its massive lightning strikes, Rey Dau possesses mastery over the elements by unleashing its own earth-shattering electrical discharge attacks.
Beware of its spectacular aerial dance as it takes to the skies to cause destruction from above.
Many new faces join the Forbidden Lands Research Committee
Olivia
Meet Olivia, a hammer-wielding member of the Hunter’s Guild who joins the Research Committee. She previously served the Guild by performing special missions, and now she joins the hunters and their crews in the Forbidden Lands.
If summoned, Olivia can also assist as a Support Hunter in missions.
Athos
Olivia is accompanied by her trusty long-haired Palico, Athos. Having accompanied her on many missions, this Palico is considered the most elite among her companions.
Hunt in groups, even when playing solo
Like previous games in the Monster Hunters series, you can fire an SOS flare to request help from up to 3 other hunters online.
However, if you want to hunt in groups while playing single player, the new Support Hunter system might be just what you’re looking for. New to Monster Hunter Wilds, you can now call for help from NPC Support Hunters while playing single player.
Hunter Support
The SOS flare setting can be customized to “player only” or “support hunter only”, as well as the number of players in multiplayer. Support hunter NPCs can also get involved if no players respond to your SOS flare after a certain amount of time.
Base Camp: Your Home Away From Home
Windward Plains Base Camp
The Windward Plains Base Camp serves as your base of operations. Prepare for the hunt by visiting the forge to purchase new weapons and armor, purchase items, prepare food, etc. At the base camp, you can interact with members of the research committee.
Kunafa, Windsong Village
Areas within the Forbidden Lands contain settlements that have been inhabited by local people for generations. Experience their cultures and communities, which have been greatly shaped by their environment.
The Windsong Village, Kunafa, is one such settlement in the Windward Plains. The village is known as the home of the Seikret people and is also famous for the cheese produced from the milk of their cattle.
We hope you will look forward to interesting interactions between the members of the Research Committee and the villagers.
Explore and hunt in new ways
Larger, more dynamic locations mean new ways to hunt. Start your expeditions in Monster Hunter Wilds with multiple targets in mind. Hunt seamlessly by targeting monsters on the battlefield and attacking them to start new quests. Keep in mind that some monsters cannot be targeted during specific story progression situations.
Meal
Good food is a staple in any Monster Hunter game, and Monster Hunter Wilds takes things to the next level by allowing you to cook anywhere, without having to return to camp. Cook and eat delicious food while out in the field using the Portable BBQ Grill, which provides temporary power-ups and stat boosts.
The portable BBQ grill can also be used for grilling meat. Time your grilling properly to get a well-done steak, which will maximize your stamina and restore your health and stamina.
Pop-up Summer Camp
Keep an eye out for places where you can set up Pop-up Camps in the field. A limited number of camps can be set up at fixed locations across large locations, allowing you to fast travel, manage items and equipment, start new quests, and return after fainting.
An evolutionary hunt
Monster Hunter Wilds retains the same signature hunting feel, challenging hunters to master a variety of unique weapons and use everything at their disposal to win. Whether it’s taking advantage of terrain, weather, endemic life, or items in your kit, every advantage matters while hunting. Monster Hunter Wilds continues to add to the core hunting mechanics with all new ones.
Power conflict
Engage in a fierce power struggle as you defend against a number of monster attacks. Go all out and push the monster back to stagger it, then close in for a powerful follow-up attack.
Offset attack (*available on some weapons only)
When your attack collides with a monster’s attack at the same time when using certain weapons, a compensation attack can occur. The attack will stagger the monster, allowing you to follow up with a single attack.
