Alex Palou is sticking with Chip Ganassi Racing after announcing his departure to McLaren
Back in July, Racing Chip Ganassi notice that it will be kept Alex Palou, then the reigning IndyCar champion, in his No. 10 car. After many months law drama and social media curiosity when Palou announced his departure from the McLaren racing program, the storm finally subsided and it returned to the status quo. Yes, Palou is sticking with CGR.
If you’re wondering what happened, here’s a quick update. On July 13, Chip Ganassi Racing issued a press release announcing that they would be retaining Palou for the 2023 season. The release included a quote from Palou – and then all hell broke down. .
Palou used Twitter to protest CGR’s claims. He said that he Not stick wiCGR stuff; instead, he says he has signed with McLaren (though he did not specify which jockey he will run with the latter team). Furthermore, Palou noted that his alleged quote in the press release was forged.
Ganassi then took Palou to court, arguing that Palou had broken CGR’s contract, which apparently included an option for the team to retain Palou for 2023. Essentially, that option would allow CGR to have the right to decide if they want to keep Palou for an additional season – which means that Palou technically won’t be able to sign another team until he gets permission from CGR to do so. .

The exact details of both the contract and the lawsuit are unknown, but it appears to have been settled. Palou will stay with the No 10 team for a tough 2023 season for sure. Meanwhile, McLaren’s IndyCar program has announced that it will retain Felix Rosenqvist along with current driver Pato O’Ward and new signer Alexander Rossi.
In Palou’s Twitter announcement that he would stay with Chip Ganassi Racing, he noted that the team would allow him to pursue Formula 1 testing with McLaren. However, where Palou will end up in 2024, it is sure to give us some drama.
