Alex Kirilloff undergoes end-of-season wrist surgery

Less than a week after being put on the injury list with right wrist inflammation, the 2022 season is over for Minnesota Twins midfielder Alex Kirilloff.

Kirilloff will undergo season-ending ulnar shortening surgery on Tuesday, the team announced on Sunday.

The 24-year-old had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his wrist last July, causing his rookie campaign to derail.

According to MLB.com’s Do-Hyoung Park, Kiriloff couldn’t swing the club without pain and ultimately decided to have the procedure performed.

“Whenever you’re talking about shaving or shortening, I mean, it’s an important procedure,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters and Park. “But we hope that by getting it done now, it gives us a chance to use the season to stay on track, to start swinging again, to feel good and start getting ready for the game.” next year.”

Kirilloff ends the year cut .250 / .290/.361 with three home runs and 21 RBIs in 45 games.

Picked by Minnesota as number 15 overall in 2016, Kirilloff made his major league debut last season. In 59 games, he beat .251 / .299 / .423 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs.
