Alen Babic’s relentless, forward-thinking style has made him the ideal training partner for Britain’s biggest heavyweights to try their hand at in the gym.
‘The Savage’, who has 10 kills out of 11 wins, has been an entertaining underdog in the UK since 2020, supporting performances for his mentor, Dillian Whyte.
However, it is who Babic is facing in the gym that gives him the most experience. He was invited into the camps of both Tyson Fury and Joe Joyce as they prepared for their heavyweight competitions.
Asked by ID Boxing Regarding a potential fight between the two, the fan-favorite Croatian hasn’t gone as far as to pick a winner, but has said he believes Joyce is the more dangerous.
“It was a crazy fight. I think Tyson is a madman, he really is. He is one of my favorite characters. I was in his camp for a month and he was so nice to me and gave me everything. He is a real character. I think Joe Joyce [doesn’t have that] persona – not even as close as Tyson Fury.
But Joe Joyce is, in my opinion, a bit more dangerous at the moment. I think Tyson Fury spent more, you know? He also says his arm hurts, elbows, everything. He’s damned, in his own words.
I think Joe Joyce is that kind of juggling guy, he doesn’t feel pain. Something like myself. He just didn’t feel the pain, he just kept going. I don’t know if Tyson Fury is smart [to take that fight.]
I think it was the hardest fight… but I would never rule out Tyson Fury. He’s a champion and that’s nothing.”
The records support his sentiment, with WBC Champion Fury having 33 competitions in his professional career beginning in 2008. Joyce, over three years old, has only had 15 professional matches since turning from a successful amateur career in 2017.
Both are undefeated, it’s a match fans would love to see and fortunately, a match Fury and Joyce seem to support. Meanwhile, the former has a small problem that is an undisputed match with Oleksandr Usyk to solve.
