The sign states, ‘According to WA Government regulations, as of Monday 31 January 2022 you will be required to provide proof of vaccination to purchase alcohol from this shop’.

On Monday, new WA restrictions were introduced including full vaccinations required to enter a large number of mostly indoor locations.

These include clubs, cafes, restaurants (including fast food outlets), cinemas, stadiums, gyms and to buy alcohol.

But supermarkets are not on the list of vaccine-only locations – although virus transmission could easily happen there.

WA Prime Minister, Mark McGowan, announced the new rules would protect the community and encourage people to get vaccinated.

But the Aldi example seems to show that in some cases the effectiveness of the rules seems questionable.

One twitter user thinks they have found a way to solve the problem.

‘Easy fix. Load your cart with groceries and put alcohol last. When they refuse to serve, just leave,’ the person wrote.

Another user believes that the basis for the new restrictions is ‘reverse’.

‘Ask for proof of vax makes no sense. By the simple fact that you are going out and using a service, whether you have a vaxd or not, if you have an illness or symptoms you should not go out,’ they said.

‘The public health perspective is being reversed. If you’re feeling sick or unwell, don’t go out. ‘
