Albertus Maximus passed away




















Albertus Maximus (Albert the Great – Chasethewildwind, by Forty Niner), winner of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile in 2008, died after a shoal accident. This 18-year-old stallion was recently given the right to attend the Well-Taught Old Friends Retirement from Shadwell’s Nashwan Stud.

Racing in the colors of Sheikh Hamdan, Albertus Maximus also won the GI Donn H. 2009 He retired from the race in 2012 with six wins in 17 starts and $1,328,230.

“Albertus Maximus inherits the confidence of the male,” said Old Friends President Michael Blowen. “Like Albert the Great, Albertus was well aware of his extraordinary talent. If he’s not the friendliest retiree, he’s handsome and knows it – and we specialize in superstars.”
