Albert Pujols scores 696 at home, beating Alex Rodriguez for fourth all time

Future Hall of Fame Albert Pujols keep inching closer and closer to the magical 700 home run mark.

After winning the 696th career home run Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals‘slugger is just four teams away from this important milestone.

At the start of the sixth inning, Pujols broke two home runs on the left touchline, bouncing the first throw of the game against Pirates starter JT Brubaker.

Homer number 696 moved Pujols into a relationship with Alex Rodriguez for most Wednesday home run in baseball history. Pujols only trail Babe Ruth (714), Henry Aaron (755) and Barry Bonds (762) on the all-time list.

If Pujols hits 700 at-home runs, he’ll sit with some very exclusive companies.

According to Derrick Goold of St. Louis Dispatch, the Pujols will join only Ruth and Aaron as the only players in baseball history to score 700 home runs and 2,200 RBI.

After Saturday, the 42-year-old has 23 games left in the regular season to reach 700th place.

During the year, Pujols has 17 home runs and 46 RBI runs while cut .266 / .339 / .520 in 89 games for the Cardinals.
