Alabama woman dies after wrench smashes car windshield


Earlier this month, an Alabama woman died in front of her son after a wrench shattered her car windshield. Montgomery County police have released more details about what happened to her. Earlie Harris.

Earlie’s son was driving her to work on the morning of August 8 when a wrench smashed his windshield. according to WSFA 12. After briefly avoiding debris, he saw his mother bleeding and pulled over to the side of the road. Police responded to the single-vehicle crash and pronounced her dead at the scene. She was 58 years old and was from Montgomery, Alabama.

How can a wrench smash a windshield on the interstate?

The wrench went through the windshield of the car as the mother and daughter were traveling on I-65. The family suspects the large wrench came from a truck traveling north, but police are still investigating.

The law firm representing Earlie Harris’ family is offering a $1,000 reward for any information from anyone who was traveling on I-65 on the morning of August 8 and may have seen the wrench’s origin.

“It’s something you can’t miss. Someone out there in high traffic, who was behind, saw the object come down, bounce down the street,” said their attorney LaBarron Boone. “It didn’t hit them, and they could have just kept going, but it killed Miss Earlie Harris, who was an incredible maid.”

The law firm Beasley Allen also shared a map of the route and an additional description of the wrench that hit the windshield. A previous study by AAA found that road debris caused more than 200,000 crashes in the United States between 2011 and 2014, according to TSR Investigates.

While Earlie Harris’ family waits for answers, they are also mourning her loss and celebrating her life. Her son reportedly told WSFA that she was very family-oriented and a caring person.
