Aim is to ensure progress of far-flung areas to fulfil country’s security needs: Rajnath | India News


LEH/JAMMU: Emphasizing that the infrastructure development coupled with the bravery of the armed forces are the main reasons for India’s effective response to the recent situation in the Northern region, the Minister of State room Rajnath Singh on Friday reaffirmed the Center’s commitment to ensuring progress in remote areas to meet the country’s security needs.
Singh said this while speaking at a meeting on the occasion of the official dedication of 75 infrastructure projects built by Borderline Organization (BROTHER) for the country at a function held at the DS-DBO Road in Ladakh.
In a statement, a defense spokesman said, “These 75 projects – 45 bridges, 27 roads, two helipads and one carbon-neutral habitat – span six states and two Union Territories (UTs) Twenty of these projects are located in Jammu & Kashmir; 18 in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh; 5 in Uttarakhand and 14 in other border states of Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan.”
Saying the 75 new projects are testament to that determination (developing remote areas), Singh said these bridges, roads and helipads will facilitate military and civilian traffic. in the western, northern and northeastern regions of the country. , form part of the development chain.
He described connectivity with border areas as one of the focus areas of the National Comprehensive Development Center. “The lack of infrastructure development at J&K in the decades after Independence was one of the reasons behind the rise of terrorism in UT,” he said.
“These internal disturbances resulted in a significant drop in tourist arrivals, impacting Ladakh as well as the entire country,” the defense minister said.
“Now, thanks to the government’s efforts, the region is witnessing a new dawn of peace and progress. Our goal is to further develop all states/UTs of the country” , Singh said and added, “Soon, all the remote regions will be connected to the rest of the country and together we will take the country to new heights of progress. . BRO has an important role to play in achieving this goal.”
Singh also laid the foundation stones of Himank Air Despatch Complex under construction in Chandigarh, and a BRO museum in Le H.
These 75 strategically important projects were built by BRO at a cost of Rs 2,180 crore in record time, many were completed in a single working season using modern technology.
Appreciating the BRO’s courage and determination to achieve the feat despite challenging weather conditions, Singh pointed out that the projects will strengthen the country’s defense preparedness and ensure economic development of border areas.
The highlight of the event was the on-site inauguration of the 120-meter class 70 Shyok Setu on DS-DBO Road at 14,000 feet. The bridge will be of strategic importance as it will facilitate the logistical movement of the armed forces.
