The New York Jets’ talented rookie cornerback Ahmad Gardner, 4th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has been nicknamed “Sauce” since his youth football days in Detroit.
According to Gardner, a youth soccer coach called him “A1 Sauce’s Sweet Foot Gardener.” The nickname was eventually shortened to “Sauce.”
“He said the name suits me perfectly”, corner tell ABC in a pre-draft interview.
Over the course of pre-season and Week 1, Gardner was targeted twice and was only allowed to host once, an eight-yard Sunday appearance against Raven.
Focus on professional football praised the 22-year-old former University of Cincinnati star: “Sauce Gardner continues to look like a full-back that no midfielder wants to target with frequency.”
Gardner’s comrades reported denied to call Gardner “Sauce” until he “earned” it. If he continues to act in plays like this, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before Gardner becomes widely known as Sauce.
