The Transportation Security Administration is reducing the registration fee to their PreCheck program from $85 to $78. That’s good news as airports are ramping up tourist numbers over the holidays.

While the onset of the pandemic ushered in a period of empty airports and infrequent flights, airlines currently seeing an increase in bookings with what they were like before. And as the holidays approach, airlines have huge profit report as fares continue to rise. But the tourism boom also means packed flights, busy airports and overcrowded staff.

“For individuals and families planning to fly this holiday season, now is the time to apply for or renew TSA PreCheck,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in a statement. Press Release Discount notice.

The government agency also said that 93% of PreCheck passengers spent less than five minutes at security checkpoints in September.

Signing up for TSA PreCheck, which lasts for five years, includes an in-person appointment before passengers receive an ID number that they can use when booking a flight to gain access to a perhaps faster line at the airport. The online renewal cost is still $70.
