Mohansinh Rathva, a 10-time MLA member of the National Assembly in Gujarat, quit the party less than a month to take part in the assembly elections in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hometown, where the National Assembly has struggled to come to power. for more than two decades.
Sources say Mr. Rathva, 78, is likely to join the BJP tomorrow. The MLA, which represents the Chhota Udaipur (Scheduled Tribe, or ST) constituency, has sent his resignation letter to the boss Jagdish Thakor of the Gujarat Parliament.
Mr. Rathva was famous for the tributes in his stronghold. Prior to 2012, he represented Pavi-Jetpur (ST) constituency in Chhota Udaipur district.
He recently announced he would not stand in the Gujarat elections this time, but would like to see his son, Rajendrasinh Rathva, fight from his seat.
As for whether the BJP would give his son a ticket to the election, the MLA said he was “100% sure”.
“However, I haven’t found a ticket yet. I’m old now. My son Rajendrasinh is an engineer. He is a BE (Bachelor of Engineering). It feels like we should join. BJP,” Mr Rathva told reporters at the BJP headquarters, PTI news agency reported.
Mr Rathva denied he was leaving Parliament because the party refused to give his son a ticket.
“Congress never said they wouldn’t give me a ticket (for my son.) I decided before Congress said anything about it. I was impressed by the work done by the government itself. BJP government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in our tribal areas. That’s why I decided to join the BJP,” he added.
MP Naran Rathva also sought a ticket for his son from the same seat, PTI reported.
Gujarat will vote in two batches on December 1 and 5; count is on December 8th.
