After all, ‘Gotham Knights’ won’t come to PS4 or Xbox One

You can forget about playing Knight of Gotham on previous generation consoles. Along with a 13 minutes game demo (below), WB Games Montreal has revealed that their Batman-adjacent open-world game will no longer be releasing for PS4 or Xbox One. Maybe you will need a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S to save Gotham City from your living room. The studio says it’s downsizing older machines to deliver “the best possible gaming experience,” although we wouldn’t be surprised if this helps WB make games. Release date October 25.

WB announced Knight of Gotham in the summer of 2020, but delay the game to 2022 less than a year later. The company decided to launch in October this March.

Meanwhile, the game demo provides a good look at the variety you can expect. Each of the four superheroes plays very differently. You can choose Nightwing for acrobatic, melee-focused combat, while Red Hood thrives on his (non-lethal) guns. Crime solving can rely on anything from head-to-head brawls to motorcycle chases and augmented reality games. Crafting and raising skills will be as useful as they are in a lot of recent games. In many ways, this is DC Comics/WB’s response to Insomniac’s Spider-Man Game – it’s an attempt to combine free-roaming action with a meaningful story.
