Judgment Collection finally brought the Yakuza spin-off to PC this year

Editor: Judgment is an action adventure game by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the people behind the Yakuza games. Except you’re not playing as a member of the Yakuza but as defense attorney turned private detective Takayuki Yagami, who must help bring down Kamurocho’s criminal network. This doesn’t mean this is a boring side story when you’re just a nice guy putting thugs in jail, oh no. Far away from it.

The game begins with a murder mystery that – as you’d expect from RGG – quickly turns into a dark web of conspiracy and corruption. But unlike many Yakuza games, the frequent synopsis and easy-to-understand case files make Judgment’s killer story much easier to follow. Seriously, it’s refreshing to approach Kamurocho with a clean slate, and that’s one of the reasons why I think it could make a perfect starting point for those who haven’t. yakuza in the past.

And the story is the one that kept me hooked all the way through, with twists and turns represented by the most lavish cutscenes. Even with expectations adjusted – this is a melodrama after all – it ends the murder mystery with a surprisingly strong medical theme that I can’t say any more about.

What really makes the game interesting, however, is its silliness, which is especially evident in the side quests. The inhabitants of Kamurocho whisper about a threat that roams the springs: Ass Catchem, a member of the Twisted Trio. But first, you must meet your countrymen: professor panty. There’s a handsome idol whose wig keeps getting blown away by the wind, so you have to run fast across the city to chase it. And it’s all just a hilarious escape from the seriousness of the main story.

Yagami pokes his head out of his hiding place as he tracks the suspect in Judgment.

So yes, Judgment is a great starting point for newbies, but what does it offer for Yakuza fans? Why, everything you can imagine. The battle is fluid and flashy, with ridiculous special moves in which convenience store employees will throw you hot food and you’ll stuff it into your enemies’ mouths to burn them unconscious. . Yagami and his gang, are said to be more expressive than Kiryu and his gang, which adds smugness to thugs takedowns or giggles to lighten the mood. Seriously, it’s a fun thing to play with all your friends in the game.

Most importantly, Judgment takes you back to a wonderfully rendered Kamurocho, allowing you to see it from a slightly different perspective. Sure, a lot of things will be familiar, but there’s also a lot of new things to discover. Like customizing your own drone and entering the drone racing tournament, I can say that this is an extremely good time. There’s also this special VR Paradise mini-game, where you roll the dice and move on a virtual chessboard, knocking down the bad guys and increasing your cash along the way.

Honestly, judgment is a rare pleasure. A game with a great story, a beautiful city to explore and just a bunch of the best games on the side. Get it in your library (please).
