Adayar vs Champion S.
Last year’s Derby winner Adayar (Ire) (Frankel [GB}) is set to take on Baaeed (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) in the G1 QIPCO British Champion S. on Oct. 15.
Godolphin confirmed the news on Twitter on Tuesday in a post that read, “Following discussions yesterday, it has been decided that Adayar will miss the [G1] Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and will instead advance to Champion S. at Ascot, where conditions may be more suitable for him. “
Following his Classic win at Epsom last June for Charlie Appleby, Adayar added G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. to his list of wins before finishing fourth in the Arc at heavyweight. after Torquator Tasso (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}) . Sent to Ascot two weeks later, he finished fifth in Champion S.
After a minor defeat in the spring, the 4-year-old’s return was delayed until September 8, when he was the easy winner of the 10-point conditional race at Doncaster. Adayar’s defection will leave Godolphin without a runner in the Arc, the race Godolphin last won 20 years ago against Marienbard (Ire) (Caerleon).
