NEW DELHI: Gautam Adani owned Women’s soccer tournament (WPL) team Giants of Gujarat appointed Australians Rachel Haynes as head coach on Friday. The team also invited Nooshin Al Khadeer, who guided India’s U-19 team to the World Cup, as bowling coach.
The Gujarat giant, bought for a whopping Rs 1289, has signed the Indian captain Mithali Raj as their mentor and advisor.
The team has also added former women’s senior coach Tushar Arothe as the team’s batting coach and Gavan Twining will take charge of the batting department.
“Not only have they forged their own niche in their roles, but their stories of resilience will be an inspiration to the entire team. Their synergy will help the Gujarat Giants put on a show. Their best performance on the field at the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League, will inspire some ambitious female athletes,” Mithali said of the appointments.
Haynes, who has played at the highest level for more than a decade, has won six world championship titles with Team Australia and was the team’s vice-captain from 2017-2022.
The left-handed hitter is a veteran of the 84 T20I and played a key role in the Australian team’s title-winning campaigns at the 2018 and 2020 T20 World Cups, before retiring from international cricket in September. last year.
