MANILA, Philippines–Adamson overcame the University of Santo Tomas, 62-55, to qualify for the first Finals in 20 years in the UAAP Season 85 youth basketball tournament on Tuesday at the Filoil EcoOil Center.
The highest ranked Baby Falcons, who last reached the championship round in 2003, turned the game around in the third round, overtaking the Tiger Cubs, 16-9, to a 46-42 advantage.
UST could even take a 49-to-all lead but Vince Reyes scored consecutive shots to take Adamson’s 6-0 lead, giving their team the lead.
Peter Rosillo’s treble gave Baby Falcos a safe 62-52 lead with 1:46 remaining.
“It was a fun moment. I’m happy for them,” said Adamson High School coach Mike Fermin. “We could be in the Finals in pre-season but this is a different atmosphere.”
Reyes leads the Baby Falcons with 21 points, 9 bounces, 3 assists and 2 steals while Justine Garcia adds 14 points, 7 assists and 3 steals.
The Tiger Cubs finished fourth in their first Finals since 2018.
