Acura Integra is reported to be the brand’s last gas-powered model launch

The Acura Integra hatchback launch in the 2023 model year will be the brand’s final launch for a vehicle still powered by an internal combustion engine, Automotive News (registration required) reported Sunday following an interview with Emile Korkor, assistant vice president of national sales Acura.

“We’re so excited about this latest [Integra] will do to build a loyal customer base as we move towards electrification,” he said.

Korkor in a separate interview with Automotive News published last December said Acura was committed to electric vehicles and would skip launching additional hybrid vehicles as it makes the transition from gas energy to battery power.

The transition will begin as early as the 2024 model year when Acura launches electric SUV will be built by General Motors on its Ultium platform used in the GMC Hummer EV 2022 and Cadillac Lyriq 2023. Parent company Honda will also launched an SUV based on the Ultium platform for 2024. Honda (and possibly Acura) also plans electric vehicles based on e: Architectural foundation starting in 2026.

Also, we might see an electric NSX in the not too distant future. Acura boss Jon Ikeda confirms plans for the third generation NSX last summer when Acura launched the NSX Type S 2022 to mark the end of the run for the current second-generation model. His comments at the time implied that the next NSX would be powered by something other than a standalone internal combustion engine like the first-generation car and a hybrid setup like a second-generation vehicle.

Honda has been there since tease a pair of electric sports cars, one of which is described as a “top” model (shown above) and looks to have the same proportions as a mid-engine supercar. The other car looks similar to the proportions of a front-engined rear-wheel drive sports car and can therefore serve as a spiritual successor to the S2000.
