While it’s not uncommon for a veteran midfield starter to skip an OTA, Rodgers’ presence continues to make headlines given his tumultuous relationship with Green Bay’s main office in recent seasons. and speculation about when he will retire.
The tension between Rodgers and the Packers at least seems to have subsided since he was signed to a four-year, $200 million contract extension this season. The deal, which includes a guaranteed $153 million, makes Rodgers the league’s highest-paid player.
Questions remain as to how reserve midfielder Jordan Love fits into the mix now that Rodgers is locked in such an expensive contract. There are also questions raised as to whether Green Bay’s offense can continue to operate at an elite level after Rodgers’ preferred target, Davante Adams, has departed for the Las Vegas Raiders this holiday season.
