Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter paid tribute to “baby brother” Aaron after he was found dead.
The singer, 42, wrote on Twitter that “his heart is breaking” and posted several photos of the couple during their younger years.
“Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never faded,” he posted on Sunday.
“I’ve always had hope that somehow he’ll one day want to walk the path of saneness and finally find the help he so desperately needs.”
He added that “addiction and mental illness are the real bad guys here,” signing the post: “I love your little brother.”
Carter, 34 years old, is found dead in the bathtub at his Los Angeles home on Saturday, according to reports.
Local authorities said he was discovered by a housekeeper around 11am that day, but attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
Singer, rapper, and actor, known for the songs Aaron’s Party (Come Get It), I Want Candy, and his appearances on the television shows Lizzie McGuire and Dancing With The Stars.
In 2012, the Carter brothers’ sister Leslie died after falling in the shower, and authorities ruled that she died of a prescription drug overdose.
In 2017, he entered rehab after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and marijuana charges.
He revealed on a 2019 episode of the talk show The Doctors that he was taking medication for multiple personality disorder, mania, and acute anxiety.
That same year, Nick Carter and his other sister Angel filed a restraining order against him, alleging that he threatened to kill Carter’s pregnant wife and unborn child.
Went to rehab again this year
Earlier this year, he re-entered rehab in hopes of regaining custody of Prince, whom he shares with fiancée Melanie Martin.
Social networks flooded social media after news of his death broke.
Actress and singer Hilary Duff, who plays Lizzie McGuire, posted a tribute on Instagram, writing: “To Aaron – I’m so sorry life was so hard for you and you had to fight. before the whole world.
“You have an absolutely intense charm…my teenage boy fell deeply in love with you. Sending love to your family at this time. Rest assured.”
American group New Kids On The Block shared a black and white photo of Carter and wrote on Twitter: “We are shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Aaron Carter.
“Prayers to the Carter family. Rest in peace, Aaron.”
