CVC received a complaint on August 25, 2019, regarding irregularities and cost overruns in the construction of classrooms. Construction costs have increased by up to 90% in the name of “richer specifications” without the need for a tender. Delhi government has sanctioned cost escalation of Rs 500 crore without tender.

As a result of the CVC investigation report, bids were floated for the works proposed and initially approved, but subsequently, the contract value awarded varied from 17% to 90% due to “information richer specifications”.

Costs escalated to Rs 326.25 crore, 53% higher than the bid amount awarded.

“At 194 schools, 1214 toilets have been built compared to the required 160 toilets at an additional cost of Rs 37 billion. Toilets are calculated by the Delhi government and are expected to be classrooms. Only There are 4027 classrooms built in 141 schools,” the report said. ANI.
