Aaftab Poonawala Cut Shraddha Walkar’s Body With Saw, Reveals Autopsy
New Delhi:
The body of Shraddha Walkar, who is believed to have been murdered by her life partner Aaftab Poonawala earlier this year, was cut into pieces with a saw, an autopsy of her bones has revealed.
Last month, a DNA test confirmed that the bones where the alleged killer Aaftab Poonawala led police to the forest area of Mehrauli and in Gurugram were those of Shraddha.
Traces of blood found in their apartment also matched hers. Testing was done using DNA samples from her father.
The bone examination was performed at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital.
Aaftab Poonawala allegedly killed Shraddha Walkar on May 18 at their rented apartment in Mehrauli after an argument. He chopped her body into 35 pieces and then dumped them all over the city for a few days.
The crime gradually came to light after her father visited the police in their hometown of Maharashtra around October.
Her father, Vikas Walkar, did not contact her because he was unhappy about her religious relationship with Aaftab Poonawala. Meeting through a dating app, the couple lived together for a few months in their hometown of Vasai near Mumbai before moving to Delhi just last May.
Aaftab has been in judicial custody since November 26. Delhi police are likely to file an indictment on the case later this year. Aaftab, sources said, had previously told a Delhi court that he had killed his partner Shraddha Walkar “in the heat of the moment”.
