‘A miracle’: Thrown in bushes, infant with a broken leg survives chilly night; now stable | Noida News


GREAT NOIDA: “I held her in my arms and felt like I was holding my baby,” says Jyoti Singhwife of the SHO of Knowledge Park police station.
Jyoti was holding a newborn baby girl who couldn’t stop crying. She was hungry, had a broken bone in her small left leg, and had survived a few hours on a cold night inside the bushes. Abandoned with nothing but a piece of cloth, the girl was already a warrior.
Rescued by police on December 20, the baby is currently being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Government Institute of Health Sciences in Greater Noida. She was initially diagnosed with jaundice and broke her left leg when someone presumably threw her into the bushes. The nurses said she was recovering well.
“On December 20, we found the infant wrapped in a cloth. His condition is very critical. We have taken him to the police station here,” said Vinod Kumar Singh, SHO of Knowledge Park police station said.
The police tried their best but could not stop the baby’s crying. She was hungry, but could not have anything other than milk.
Singh took her to his quarters upstairs. “My husband came up to me and asked if I could breastfeed. She broke her leg very badly. The only thing she needed at that time was breast milk. Although scared, I decided to breastfeed. I reassured her and she fell asleep. She was with me for a few hours before being taken to the hospital. I will see her again on Monday. I heard she is stable,” Jyoti said. with TOI.
The first girl was taken to Kailash Hospital. After preliminary treatment, she was admitted to GIMS according to the guidelines of the Child Welfare Committee.
“Doctors are monitoring the baby. Her saturation, pulse and all other vital signs are normal. Her left leg has been bandaged and she will be monitored for a few more days. “, nurse Neha Kashyap said.
A female police officer was deployed outside the GIMS ICU.
Dr Rakesh Gupta, director of GIMS and a retired major general, said: “This is a miracle. She survived the cold weather. Thankfully, she is still breathing well.”
The police have formed a team to keep an eye on the family. The area where the baby was rescued has no CCTV.
